This is for Cari.
I promised I would blog and blog I will!
I feel like I haven't had a moment to breathe since I got back from Georgia. It's cruel to give us a week break from school and then force us back for a week and then give us finals. Absolutely cruel. And this week is full of tests. They don't even have a dead week in this pitiful college. I need a break. And Thanksgiving does not count.
So We set out for Georgia on Wednesday morning. Our goal was to be on the road by 7am, so we were up at 6am (already packed, all we needed to do was shower, dress, and load up). Nothing ever goes according to plan. Ever. It's silly to plan. We had several issues that I don't really remember anymore (that's how wiped I am!) and we finally got on the road at 8am. Not bad, only an hour later.
I drove the entire 12 hours there. I was so proud of myself! The furthest I have driven is from here to Dallas, an easy 6 hour drive that I could probably do in my sleep (though I won't ... I'd like to avoid accidents) but you get the idea. This was a challenge and I wanted to rise up and excel! Only I spent the next few days trying to recover :P Silly me.
We got in at 9pm (gotta love the timezones) and visited for a bit before we were put to work. Josh and I cut up celery, peeled and sliced potatoes, and did a few other food prep things before we crashed in bed. My granny gave me an early christmas present of a whole new bedding set! I was a little worried at first when I heard that (how was I to know what she would pick out?) but it's really pretty and very warm.
Thursday was wonderful. We spent more time making food things (I did the deviled eggs! Josh made a fantastic fruit salad) My mom really knows how to put people to work. I saw lots and lots of family. I was telling Josh that I really want a big family, lots of kids, because of get-together's like Thanksgiving and Christmas. I mean, the house was packed and only half of my mom's brothers were there! My uncle's Jay, Scott, and John. With them were their wives and kids (could have done without some of the wives, they can be crazy .. no joke .. ) plus my granny, my mom, my oldest brother and his family, myself and Josh. Oh, and also my little brother called from a retired military man's (he had a title .. I don't remember it though) house. It was really cool, they gave him a phone with unlimited long distance and said call your family! It's thanksgiving! Isn't that awesome? Only a few weeks until his graduation and I get to see him again! WOO!
Friday, Josh, my mom and I loaded up and drove to Atlanta, only an hour or so away. I've been before, but Josh hasn't. We hit up the Olympic park, looked at the outside of the Coca-Cola building (the line was ridiculous, no way jose) and got good and lost. We even walked down a very creepy and deserted alley with barbed wire over the gates between the buildings O.o Luckily Josh had his handy-dandy iPhone and got us un-lost. After much hiking about and a few strange encounters with tricky homeless men (ask for stories later if you want), we were informed that the Art Museum we were looking for was on the other side of town -.-
So we drove over to the most beautiful museum I have seen in awhile. I saw some really amazing things, too. A Rothko, a Giacometti sculpture, several Picasso's (but don't most museums have those now? He seems to be everywhere), a Donatello bronze sculpture, and one of Leonardo's notebooks (how cool!?) But that is not the reason we went. We went for the exhibition of the Tera Cota Warriors. Holy smokes it was so surreal to stand in front of them. And it was only a few. They had several rooms with different weapons, tiles, and other small trinkety things. But the room with the warriors ... yeesh. How do I even put into words? They had 10 or 12 different styles of warriors lined up and all they had separating you from the warriors was a sheet of plexiglass that came up to my waist...oh, and the strange bodyguard that kept walking around them trying to look intimidating. Anyway, it was absolutely fantastical. I wanted so badly to be able to reach out and touch them. Intense.
Saturday was a lovely day of relaxation, playing board games, eating left over pie and turkey sandwiches, and going through old things of mine from my childhood. Nothing too exciting to talk about. I got to feed chickens (oh how they stink) and play with kittens.
Sunday was the long drive back. I let Josh drive a good portion of it, especially the icy bits that were followed by massive accidents. I have never really driven in the ice. In Texas, when we have bad weather everything shuts down and people just stay home. It's much easier that way, but I guess I'll have to learn if I'm going to live in the icy north ;P
And ever since we got back I have been trying to get caught up. I finished my glazing this morning, I've got a zillion books that need my attention, and I have laundry piling up everywhere! Not to mention we're only halfway unpacked and I still feel strange having a pottery wheel in my living room. Charlie (my cat) as been acting really strange too. More needy, but when I give him attention, he doesn't want it. Strange cat.
That's all for now, I must go to wal-mart. We have no food and I need epoxy!
Love to all.

Megan- I absolutely understand! What kind of school doesn't have a dead week? I mean, come on! Hopefully you'll have some time to recover soon. And just think- in a few days, you'll be done!
Wow, Girlie! When you blog, you blog! I enjoyed every word and thanks. I'm so glad that we know each other.
